Important Considerations Before Sideloading
At Cargosnap, we strongly recommend using the Google Play Store for downloading and updating the app whenever possible. Modern MDM solutions typically support Play Store deployments and ensure apps are updated efficiently.
Sideloading shifts the responsibility of managing app updates entirely to you. Here are key points to consider:
- Manual Updates Required: Sideloaded apps do not update automatically. You must actively monitor for new releases and install updates yourself.
- Limited Support: Cargosnap only supports the most recent versions of the app. If you encounter issues, our support team will require you to update to the latest version before troubleshooting further.
- Operational Risks: Outdated app versions can lead to performance problems, security risks, and operational disruptions.
- Limited Functionality: Certain features, such as the Document Scanner, depend on technologies provided by Google Play Services. If these services are not installed on the device, the functionality and performance of these features may be limited.
- Tracking Outdated Apps: Devices running outdated or unsupported app versions will be flagged as "Outdated" or "Unsupported" in the device list.
About sideloading
Cargosnap allows users to sideload the app. Sideloading is the process of installing an app through a different channel than the default distribution mechanism that comes with the device. For example, most Android phones come with Google Play pre-installed. Sideloading does not use that solution, but installs the application by manually loading it onto the device (in a format like "APK").
Whether you prefer to control your own app deployment with an MDM solution, or the Google Play Store is unavailable on your device or in your country, you may opt for this solution.
Sideloading is not a supported method of app distribution by Cargosnap. While we provide the APK for advanced use cases, we cannot guarantee the same experience or support as through the Google Play Store.
